Upper Huerfano Conservation District

Promoting the wise use of natural resources in Huerfano and Las Animas Counties.

 

Tourism, rural living and agriculture co-exist in Huerfano County. Each use makes its own demands on the natural resources of the area.

· Extensive brochure and literature library at the UHCD office.

· Support of the Living Snowfence program.

· Support of the Colorado Forest Service tree seedling sale.

· Work with Colorado Division of Wildlife to identify important wildlife habitats.

· Work with landowners to get conservation practices installed on the land.

· Participation in the Huerfano County Ag Coalition

· Pursuing funding to address the Maitland Arroyo wind erosion problem.

· Participation in efforts of Huerfano County Weed Management Board

· School programs on conservation topics

· Conservation cost-share program to help fund on-the-ground conservation projects.

· Birdhouse sale

· Supplying Huerfano County Soil Surveys to area landowners, schools, libraries and realty offices.

· Tours and seminars pertinent to today’s agricultural producer.
